And the first vehicle it plans to build is a midsize pickup. Today, that truck got a name: Fathom. Will it have an option for a 6-foot bed?. Who knows?. But Ford’s first mainstream electric vehicle was also a truck, the F-150 Lightning. And after a strong reception, interest petered out, falling far short of Ford’s production and profitability targets.

What is a greater risk?. Buying an ICE truck from the Ford, the king of recalls, or roll the dice and hope they figured out how to build software better than they build transmission control modules or whatever Lincoln got slapped with last year.

Just avoid anything from Ford is the best advice. But if you must, stick with ICE. Ford has no idea how to build a competent EV. I’m not sure they have any competent ICE vehicles. I suppose the Mustang has a 5.0 with a chain driving the oil pump. I guess the 7.3 trucks.

You could put Mercury on your list. Oh sorry, I’m way behind the times, like Honda lol. The best vehicle Ford sells is the E-450 cutaway. By eliminating most of the actual vehicle, Ford has accidentally made something reliable.

I think the thing that killed the Lightning was towing. The pricing was inline with the gas trucks. Ford gave the Lightning a good tow rating, but the range was pitiful. I’d bet that the Fathom has a max towing of 2000lbs. Ford has gotten away with that low towing number on the Maverick.
